The history that made it all happen. May 1993. Gardermoen, Norway. “The mountain of Garder in Gardermoen is being demolished, and all the rocks are being taken away, due to the building of the new airport of Oslo, Norway.” My family have lived at Gardermoen since the 19th century. I was born in 1947 and I’ve lived here my entire life. When I was a little girl, I spent much of my time at my grandmothers house. She told me stories about trolls and goblins. I read about and heared stories from the elderly about the trolls that lived in the mountain of Garder. My grandmother (d 1968) once told me a legend that there were pixies, goblins and trolls living in the area. This is also mentioned in the village book of Ullensaker municipality; On the farm of Bratvoll, my closest neighbour, there once was a huge juniper tree. It was said that one could hear the trolls from under this tree. The famous Norwegian fairytale writer Per Christian Asbjørnsen was living and teaching in a neighbour village in the mid 1840s. Some of his stories and fairytales are from this area. I make the trolls and goblins from September to February. I make great effort in the small details, and I only use old things for the trolls and goblins to hold. To make it more real, I use things from the nature as details. I form the head, the hands and the feet from Cernit clay and I picture the troll and goblin finished when I form it. I make it all as a big family and everyone is pictured in my archive with name and picture. The first trolls being made was king Garde and queen Moen. They got fifteen children (not for sale). It’s the descendents that’s for sale. Each one carries with them a little story of their life in the mountain of Garder. I hope the character you “choose” will please you. Remember it is unique.
